mlp goes fine art!

Beginning Saturday April 12, I will selling fine art prints at a local art store here in Lexington called Street Scene. Street Scene is next to Coffee Times on Reynolds Road. Stop by Coffee Times for great drinks and then go into Street Scene to check out a great collection of vintage art created by local artists.

I am so excited!

Tip of the day: 2.8 lens + overcast day = awesome lighting. I heart a good 2.8 lens. Invest in good lenses.

Here are a few pictures from the wedding I just did. It was so great! Kimberly is a book club fiend of mine and it was awesome to be a part of her wedding. Also, the wedding was in the chapel at my college so that was a nice stroll down memory lane.

Tip of the day: I actually tripped as I was strolling down memory lane, or as I was taking pictures at the wedding. I sort of fell on my camera...but I had a UV filter on the lens and it protected it. Thanks to filters, for their special effects and their protection.

mlp goes athletic: 50 players + me

I am a proud alumna of Dunbar High School, although I now work at one of Dunbar's rival schools. My younger brother played baseball there back in the early 00's, about the time I was graduating high school but still enjoyed watching his uniform-clad, big league-chewing teammates play.

The circle of life came back around a couple weeks ago when I got a call from a baseball mom wondering if I'd take this year's Dunbar baseball team pictures. I jumped at the chance to expand my photographic horizons.

It was a good time, a bit challenging as the seniors and I "faked" action shots for the cover of this season's program. Also, the field was decorated with some farming equipment; a steam roller, bulldozer, etc. Pre-season maintenance I presume. It really was a great time.

Tip of the Day: Know your audience. I was rusty on my baseball terms and the guys laughed at me. Technical terms like "can you catch one from above?" (fly ball) and "stand on the mat" (second base) were thrown around.

i heart my new site.

I have a new website and am very excited. The site will lead you to this very blog, so you may have already seen it if you are reading this. This blog serves as a way to post my most current work; work I have yet to deliver to a client or post in my portfolio. I made movies in college, so call the blog a sneak peak, if you will. I also wrote screenplays in college, so call the blog and it's pictures hot off the press, if you will.

Tip of the day: When launching a website, make sure to review over every page with text. You don't want your featured couple to be from "Kenucky." Spell check left me hanging on that one. Bad spell check.

Tip of the day: I tried to fit my cards, batteries, shot sheet, etc. in my pants pocket therefore my next investment will be a waistbelt. Don't hate me for wearing a fanny pack.

Frosty Photography.

Today I had two shoots with two very warm, lovely families. Well, they weren't warm after I got done with them. It was something insane like 30 degrees outside. They were real troopers though and we had a lot of fun. Even though the leaves are gone from the trees (I was afraid the pictures were going to be void of all beautiful fall colors), I was able to experiment with other settings and took advantage of the leaves on the ground. Pictures to come.

Mary's Tip of the Day: Always carry Kleenex. Your runny nose, the kids' runny noses, and their parents will thank you.
